Despite the very severe wet weather over the winter months, the Seniors have managed to complete their winter programme of competitions, culminating in wins in the Winter Medal by Brian Odell, the Winter Cup - Stableford (best 8 scores between October and March) by Roger Harrison, and for high handicaps (23-28) Steve Gover. The winner of the Winter Singles Matchplay Trophy was Garry Swain and the Plate was won by Roger Miller. The John Farrell Trophy - medal off white tees was won by Colin Russell.
Our 2014 programme of matches against other local Clubs has now commenced with so far one defeat away to Royston GC and two victories both at home, to Haverhill GC and Colmworth & Nth Beds GC.
Our 2014 fundraising programme has also commenced and this year our designated charities are both local - namely the Arthur Rank Hospice and the Addenbrooke’s Cancer Trust (ACT). In addition, the Seniors section has already had a fundraising event to support the Clubs new Juniors Sponsorship Initiative, led by our new professional, Adrienne Engleman, which resulted in the Seniors presenting the Club with a cheque for £450 towards this superb initiative.
Finally, a special thank you must go to my predecessor, Guy Heard, who had both a superb and successful year as our Captain, no only for all the hard work he put into his year on behalf of our section, but also for his own personal achievements on the golf course, winning several of our major competitions.
