Junior Captains Day

Thu 21 Sep 2017

On Saturday 9th September the junior section celebrated our newly appointed Junior Captain, Nathan Le May at his official drive-in which was followed by a 9 hole Team Texas Scramble event.

We had 23 juniors playing from a total membership of 27 which I think you will agree was a fantastic turn out. The day started with the club chairman, David Wenham, kindly passing on some kind words of encouragement and best wishes to the junior section.

All juniors and parents then moved up to the first tee and we all watched William Millard, outgoing junior Captain, hand over his captaincy to Nathan.  This was followed by Nathan's drive-in which was dispatched straight down the middle of the 1st fairway with a lovely soft draw, much to the envy of everyone watching around the 1st tee box and many club members sitting outside the club house.  A great entrance and big relief to our new junior Captain.

The weather was kind until around 2.30pm then the heavens opened up and everyone took appropriate cover letting the storm pass us by. Much to the relief of everyone.  Lots of thunder & lightning but once it cleared everyone carried on playing, mostly soaking wet through, but nevertheless with a smile on their faces....in most cases!

It was great to see Jan, Brenda, Mike, Terry & Doug out playing and supporting the juniors, providing encouragement and enthusiasm.  It was really appreciated and a big thank you from the entire junior section.

The club staff and management helped to make it a special day and a big thanks to our club Pro, Glen, for running the beat the Pro putting challenge.

Fun was had by all with eventual team winners William Millard, Luca Randall, Harrison Hildrow with adult playing member Jan Harmer taking the 1st team prize but the real winners were everyone who turned up and helped to make this a special day.  Everyone played some fantastic golf, but it was just great to see our juniors out on the course enjoying themselves.

We are hoping to keep the momentum going over the winter months and if you know any juniors who would like to take up or rekindle their love of golf then please put them in touch with our golf Pro, Glen Kemble or myself. We would be delighted to have them on board.
