On Thursday 18th October, the Cambridge Meridian Juniors were presented with the County League 2 winners trophy at the Cambridge Area Golf Union (CAGU) end of season presentation evening at St Ives GC.  Jim Cousen (Junior Organiser) watched proudly whilst Nathan & Evie LeMay collected the winning trophy on behalf of the Meridian team.

The CAGU League 2 competition consisted of 6 teams of 6 juniors with handicaps mainly between 18 to 36. The format was matchplay, over 18 holes, played at home or away against clubs affiliated to the Cambridge Golf Union.

2018 Matches played:

Saffron Walton - Home
St Ives - Away
Brampton Park - Away
Bourn - Away
Gogs - Home

When you consider the Meridian junior section was only formed in May 2017 and that the team remained unbeaten throughout 2018, with 3 of their matches having been played away, this has been a fantastic year for the Meridian juniors and, I think you will agree, a remarkable achievement by the team.

Jim Cousen (Junior Organiser) would like to thank all team players, the parents and, importantly, the Meridian adult member sections, who, throughout 2018, have very kindly donated several hundred pounds to the junior section. Hopefully, this achievement will go some way to acknowledging this kind and generous support for the juniors at Meridian.

Looking ahead, one of the main focuses for the juniors at Meridian is to continue the expansion and growth of the junior section and with the support of the Meridian members, the parents and the current juniors, we are confident that anything is possible.

Finally, it would be remiss of me not to mention the high quality coaching and mentoring the Meridian juniors receive from our PGA professional, Ian Cochrane.  Ian's commitment to all of the juniors, irrespective of age, experience or ability has been exceptional with sessions structured to ensure that the Meridian juniors receive the highest quality coaching within a fun and friendly coaching framework.

Meridian Juniors are going from strength to strength and with several juniors moving up into intermediate age groups, we are already planning and encouraging new juniors to participate in next year’s L2 county competitions.
